Marvin Gaye (1939 — 1984), nascido Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr., foi um cantor popular de soul e R&B, arranjador, multi-instrumentista, compositor e produtor, além de ambientalista.

O seu hit "Sexual Healing", lhe rendeu dois prêmios Grammy. Até o momento de ser assassinado pelo seu pai, em 1984, Gaye tinha se tornado um dos mais influentes artistas da cena soul.

Em 1996, Gaye foi homenageado na 38º cerimônia do Grammy Awards.

A carreira de Marvin tem sido descrita como uma das que "abarcam toda a história do R&B, do doo-wop dos anos cinquenta ao soul contemporâneo dos anos oitenta." Críticos têm também afirmado que a produção musical de Gaye "significou o desenvolvimento da black music a partir do rhythm'n blues, através de um sofisticado soul de consciência política nos anos setenta e de uma abordagem maior em assuntos de cunho pessoal e sexual."

Max Romeo, também conhecido como Moxie, nasceu em Alexandria, St. Ann, Jamaica.
Nos anos 70 gravou dois importantes álbuns da história do reggae: “Revelation Time” e “War Ina Babylon”, produzido por Lee Perry.
Tornou-se célebre através de uma canção chamada “Wet Dream” (Sonho Molhado), que fez furor na Inglaterra, em 1969. Ela estava em segundo lugar, quando a BBC a proibiu, devido aos seus versos muito sugestivos.
O seu hino marcial “War Ina Babylon”, cantado com a sua voz de tenor penetrante, fez um enorme sucesso na Jamaica até a sua interdição em 1976, quando o governo jamaicano declarou o estado de sítio.
Teve numerosos sucessos como “Three Blind Mice”, “Let The Power Fall On I”, “Revelation Time” e “No Joshua No”, um severo aviso ao primeiro-Ministro da Jamaica, Michael Manley, a quem os Rastas chamavam de Josué:
